Where, near the beginning of the film, the agents (cia/fbi) try to recruit someone by settign up a scene in a diner that the recruit was supposed to solve, but instead beat the crap out of everyone and THEN told the lead agent - maybe samuel l, that he knew it was a ruse due to mistakes in the set up...such as one of the diners having expensive police shoes on and/or the waitress having the wrong foot wear or something...
any ideas?

Was it Pulp fiction....it sounds more like a Steven Segall movie though...
